Demands end to "extremist politics"
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Sept. 8, 2009
(SPRINGFIELD, VA)-- Calling for an end to "extremist politics" Democratic candidate Greg Werkheiser today called on Republican Delegate David Albo to denounce the recently-released thesis of Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell as out-of-touch with Virginia.
"Bob McDonnell's thesis is a blueprint for an extremist partisan agenda and it is an affront to the women of Virginia," said Werkheiser. "It is obvious that Bob McDonnell is too extreme for Fairfax County, and I call upon my opponent to join me in denouncing his backward agenda for Virginia."
McDonnell's thesis lays out a plan that has been characterized as his "blueprint" for a political agenda that punishes working women. In it, McDonnell lays out his political philosophy, which questions the role of women in the workforce, calls for limiting access to contraception, opposes efforts to provide equal pay for equal work, and would limit women’s access to divorce
Albo and McDonnell have worked closely for nearly fifteen years, including serving together in the House for over a decade. From 2003 to 2005, Albo served as Vice Chair of the Courts of Justice Committee during McDonnell's tenure as Chair of that committee.
"Dave Albo needs to clearly and immediately reject the extremist philosophy that is the foundation of Bob McDonnell's candidacy," said David Mason, Werkheiser's Campaign Manager. "To remain silent is to condone the principles in this document and to support a stone-age view of women."
Greg Werkheiser is the Democratic nominee for Delegate in Virginia's 42nd House District. He is a nonprofit director and educator who has dedicated his life to giving back to his community. He lives with his wife, Marion, in the Charlestown neighborhood of Springfield. They are expecting their first child this winter.
